Being involved in a construction project which contributes towards the medical support provided to new babies and their mothers is both an honour and privilege to us. We are therefore delighted to announce that we are acting as NEC Supervisor on behalf of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) on their new £12m maternity unit.
We were appointed back in September 2016 to oversee the quality aspects of this new unit which is housed within Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness. The existing unit has been in use since the hospital first opened in 1984 and a significant upgrade was required. One unique factor about this project is that their staff, service users and the general public all played a part in the design of the unit which is due to complete December 2017.
When complete it will house a brand-new suite that is split over two floors and will include 14 en-suite birthing rooms, two dedicated theatres, a high-dependency unit and an assessment and bereavement suite.
The new unit which is located adjacent to the current Antenatal and Gynaecology Clinic is being built in line with current Health Building Guidance which provides ‘best practice’ direction on the design and planning of new healthcare buildings.
