Celebrating thirty years of championing quality

We are delighted to be celebrating our thirtieth anniversary!

Thirty years providing Quality Site Inspection services for construction projects across the UK, utilising the skills of qualified inspectors with backgrounds in trades covering the wide spectrum of skills needed on construction sites.

In 1991, Hickton Consultants Ltd (trading as Hickton Quality Control) was founded in Elsecar, South Yorkshire by Tony Hickton and his wife Anne, helped by a small number of like-minded Clerks of Works willing to travel the UK to uphold the standards of workmanship and materials expected by their clients. Shortly after, they were joined by fellow Directors Peter Newton, Bob Littlewood and daughter Jane, all of whom were instrumental to the early successes of the inspection company. During it’s the journey, the business increased its services from civils and building inspections, to mechanical and electrical as well as adding the NEC Supervisor role in later years.

Tony Mobbs joined the team of Directors at Hickton Consultants Ltd just as turnover exceeded £2m in 2012. His first link with Hickton Consultants Ltd had been as far back as 1992, when as project architect for the Village Hotel in Headingley, Tony Hickton was appointed as Clerk of Works providing an excellent service.

Tony Hickton worked alongside his fellow Directors until 2016 when the business was acquired by the newly formed Hickton Holdings Ltd. From this date Ceps PLC became a major shareholder enabling the former board members to retire as part of an agreed succession plan. Under the leadership of Tony Mobbs, Hickton Consultants Ltd flourished with many clients, several of which have supported the business from the early days. Tony has ensured that the company’s business values, and attitude, has remained that of a family run business, with a wide spread of Clerks of Works across the UK, working on projects local to their location.

We started our thirtieth year with the promotion of two long-standing members of staff to Associate Directors, Jonathan King and Laura Bradshaw; both of whom have worked tirelessly over their many years with the company to build our client relationships, workforce, and tender opportunities. They are part of our ever-expanding Head office, still in Elsecar, supporting our Clerks of Works who now regularly work across over 150 sites around the UK. Whilst Hickton Consultants Ltd has grown organically, it has now been joined by carefully chosen companies with the same values providing approved inspector and energy consultant services who collectively have formed Hickton Group Ltd. Group is also celebrating an anniversary of one year!

Formed from BRCS (Building Control) Ltd, Cook Brown Building Control and Cook Brown Energy, we can now offer an holistic approach to quality, compliance and sustainability.

“When I became Managing Director of Hickton Consultants I could not have anticipated the tremendous, continued support we have received from so many clients and suppliers.

“I am fortunate to have a great team to work with too so whilst we are still in lockdown conditions I raise a virtual glass to you all in celebration of our milestone anniversaries!“
