Clerk of Works appointed for new £22m fusion energy research facility in Rotherham

We are pleased to be appointed by Harworth Group plc to provide Building Clerk of Works services for a brand-new facility which will accommodate the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP).

The UKAEA project is designed to engage industry in commercial fusion energy development to put the UK in a strong position to commercialise nuclear fusion as a major source of low-carbon electricity in the years ahead. The location of the site will offer increased collaboration with its neighbours – the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC).

In recent years, we have provided quality site inspection services to the well-known supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive (located adjacent to the new build project), the University of Sheffield’s Mercury Centre and Harworth Group’s own R-evolution units, based within the AMP.

“Construction works have now commenced, and our Building Clerk of Works is on-site undertaking inspections on behalf of our long-standing client Harworth Group. This is an exciting project for us to be involved in and we’re pleased to be playing our part in transforming the former mining site to house some of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers.”

Group Managing Director, Tony Mobbs

The iconic 150-acre AMP site is located just off Junction 33 of the M1 and forms part of the wider 740-acre Waverley scheme, which will regenerate the former Orgreave coal mining site into Yorkshire’s largest ever mixed-use development of nearly 4,000 homes and over 2m sq. ft of employment space, delivering nearly 5,000 high-value jobs to the region.

We provide leading Clerks of Works service to all industry sectors across the UK. To speak to our technical team about a construction project, please contact us on 01226 743959 or visit www.hickton.co.uk.
