The Grade II listed building, in City Square, Leeds, has now completed a three year multi-million-pound transformation of into a 66,000 sq. ft. stylish seven-storey office block – worthy of its iconic name – The Majestic, set to be home to Channel 4’s national headquarters. Delivered by the award-winning and Leeds City Region -based Rushbond Group, the Majestic sits proud at the entrance to Leeds’ railway station, at the heart of the City.
We are delighted to have worked alongside our appointer Gardiner & Theobald in the development of this incredible project. There were many challenges faced by the construction team with the most crucial being the preservation of historic fabric. The design and construction teams were able to successfully overcome these challenges and retain the original external façade, all whilst constructing new floors and a spectacular new atrium and a reinstated new ‘Palm Court’.
Already making its footprint onto the City, the Majestic’s deal with Channel 4 Headquarters won a converted ‘Game Changer’ award at The Yorkshire Property Awards 2020. The award highlights the crème de la crème of property achievements in Yorkshire, looking at projects or deals which have a material effect on the surrounding environment, which are widely recognised (in the property sector) as worthy of praise and which show excellence in conception, design and execution.
Channel 4 are to occupy the third, fourth and fifth floors of the building with Knights plc, one of the UK’s leading legal and professional services businesses, taking the first and second floors with some 17,000 sq. ft. of space available for letting.
