Swindon UTC is an engineering academy at the heart of a large engineering, manufacturing and business community located on Swindon’s historic (former) Railway Village. Our specially selected Clerks of Works ensured that the existing Grade II Listed school building and historic water tower were restored correctly to form an integral part of the scheme.


Media City UK (Salford UTC)

This £10.4m University Technical College is based in a 6,200sqm building in Salford. It provides 14-19 year olds with an outstanding education in the core curriculum combined with the right skills to access careers in the digital, media and creative industries.


Harraby Community Campus

We provided Stage E design review for the new £12.3m Harraby Community Campus. Once the project is complete it will see the creation of a brand new community centre including café, library link, meeting space, soft play, children’s centre resources and high quality sports facilities for the local community.


Energy Coast UTC (Cumbria UTC)

The new £6.8m Energy Coast UTC was developed on a green field site in West Cumbria. The College was keen to have a solution that provided a building with low running costs but did not want to follow the BREEAM process. Our Building Clerk of Works was able to use his construction knowledge to advise on the correct materials and inspect special innovations to help the UTC achieve the low energy status required. Due to the marine environment, all materials used for the envelope were non-ferrous.


Project: STEMM Building, Blackburn College

September 2013 saw the opening of the £7m STEM building which delivers a curriculum that will meet the needs of the local community. The building will provide learning and training to help young students get a head start in their chosen career path.


Project: Canary Wharf College

Client: Turner Townsend

This project involved placing the school in temporary accommodation whilst a part demolition and construction took place on the existing building. There were also refurbishments to the remaining building including a new playground and landscaping works.


Project: The Ruth Gorse Academy

We provided Building and M&E Clerks of Works to oversee the construction of The Ruth Gorse Academy – a new state-of-the-art building boasting some of the best facilities in the city of Leeds. The building includes a wide range of classrooms, exceptional sport facilities, designated Design Technology spaces, purpose-built performing arts facilities, special educational needs suite and an auditorium.


Project: Rochdale Sixth Form College, Rochdale

Client: Rochdale SFC

Rochdale is the first Sixth Form College to be opened in the UK since 2004, having opened its doors to students aged 16-18 in September 2010. We have recently been involved in the ground floor extension and alteration to the College in the Greater Manchester, Rochdale area. The college’s first set of academic results were in the top 5% of all sixth form institutions in the UK in value added terms and continues to make headlines for its academic performance.

Leeds College of Building is unique, being the first of its kind as the only further education college in the UK dedicated to construction and the built environment, earning themselves a national reputation. We provided Building Clerks of Works services through to completion of the new build as well as independent inspections including identifying defects and snagging.
