Re-launched in November 2018, YORconsult is a framework for the procurement of consultancy services, providing local authorities and other public sector organisations access to high quality professional services where companies have already passed a rigorous competitive tendering exercise.
Working closely with one of these approved leading multi-disciplinary practices Mason Clark Associates we provided Building Clerk of Works services for Shakespeare Towers; three high-rise tower blocks in Leeds.
Due to their age all 3 multi-storey blocks required extensive external refurbishment works not only to improve the aesthetics of the 3 residential high-rise buildings but also to improve the strength and thermal performance of the buildings. The works totalling £3.9m scheme included the removal of the existing concrete rendering, treating the reinforcement bars and then the application of a protective coating. External wall insulation was then applied on top of this and finally a decorative render to complete the project.
As well as a 30-year structural guarantee for the exterior of the buildings in place Leeds City Council have provided the residents with a much-improved environment. The insulation work will reduce energy consumption and the silicone rendering system gives a more pleasing appearance to the towers.
