Two major high-profile projects for the University of Sunderland

We are delighted to be providing Mechanical, Electrical and Building Clerk of Works services directly for the University of Sunderland. We have several more months supporting the University in the delivery of two of their major high-profile projects.

Project 1 – New Medical Centre. Works include improving and modernising the teaching spaces in the Dale and Darwin buildings, providing accommodation for their new Medical School opening later in 2019. Our works began in February 2019 providing Clerk of Works services during the refurbishment of the buildings. The University of Sunderland are investing £6.7 million in classroom teaching to improve the student experience.

Project 2 – Refurbishment of the Student Gateway in the Edinburgh Building.  We are due to start on site with the provision of Building, Mechanical and Electrical Clerk of Works services and will remain on site throughout the duration of the refurbishment works. The works will incorporate a remodelling of the entrances, receptions and café areas. The total investment is valued around £1 million. The Gateway is the hub for all student enquiries and is an important place for students to go to for advice or support throughout their university journey.

Sunderland Technical College opened in 1901 and was formally awarded University status 27 years ago. The University of Sunderland in the North East of England has grown and today 20,000 students are based in campuses along the North East coast, in London and Hong Kong.  The University’s facilities are reported to be among the best in the UK with £130m invested in 2 campuses over recent years.

“We are delighted to have been appointed as the Clerk of Works on these projects overseeing both the Building and Mechanical & Electrical aspects, as an extension to the clients’ team.  We are looking forward to delivering these projects to the highest standard of quality.”
