Appointed by our new client Ryder, we are back at Durham University Campus providing Clerk of Works inspections on the new Maths and Computer Science Building. This £41.9m project is expected to begin works in September this year and is anticipated to complete by September 2020 on the Upper Mountjoy campus—a previous development in which we were employed by GSS Architecture.
This impressive new build will provide a high-class, state-of-the-art teaching and learning building for the Department of Computer Science at the University’s Upper Mountjoy site in a secluded location adjacent to existing University Buildings, Rowan House and the Mountjoy Centre. The proposed site is set to be in a clearing surrounded by mature trees in a grassland setting which will naturally flow into open courtyards and towards the north an attenuation lake.
Expected to increase student numbers within the department from 800 to 1,600, the new building will house teaching accommodation of various types, lecture theatres, seminar rooms, offices and catering facilities.
Brand new research labs, computer suites, meeting rooms, library, social/breakout spaces and student learning zones will form part of this new development.
