Project Description:

We provided both Build and M&E NEC Supervisor services for this construction project at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport. Once completed, the project saw the creation of a new and improved Emergency and Urgent Care Campus (EUCC), with a new emergency department and entrance. The project’s end client, the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, secured funding from the government for this £30m scheme, which brought the EUCC up to modern standards.

Works included:

  • Full-scale remodelling of the existing emergency department
  • 2,600sqm internal refurbishment
  • External ambulance drop-off remodelling
  • 2,149sqm of total new-build elements housing clinical, staff welfare, and plant space
  • 375sqm of first-floor staff accommodation (including large break area, changing rooms, showers, meeting, and office spaces)

The remodelling and extension allowed for the provision of new assessment, treatment, and consultation areas for several key emergency and urgent care services, including the children’s emergency department, mental health, and medical same-day emergency care.

Emergency Department Luton & Dunstable Hospital

Project Description:

The refurbished Emergency Department (ED) at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital has been serving patients since its completion in December 2024. Delivered in phases while remaining fully operational, the project has transformed the department with modern treatment areas, dedicated paediatric and mental health spaces, and enhanced triage facilities to support over 300 daily attendees.

Hickton Quality Control provided Clerk of Works services, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance throughout the redevelopment.

 

Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Project Description:

Project Description:

The Sheffield Children’s Hospital project delivered a new-build, four-storey, reinforced concrete frame hospital wing with under ground car parking, as well as the refurbishment of the adjacent existing wing and the rebuild of a Victorian villa. The new-build incorporates x-ray suites, an MRI scanner room, a reception and outpatients department and state-of-the-art hospital wards and consultation rooms. To accommodate the needs of the growing community in and around Sheffield, the project is set to undergo extensions around every 10 years.

Services undertaken (Scope/RIBA stages):

Our Clerks of Works worked closely with the site team, establishing excellent working relationships to ensure consistent quality, while retaining an independent view as the client’s ‘eyes and ears’ on site. Clerk of Works services included weekly reports on quality and progress.

Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

Project Description:

We have worked on a number of projects at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, the most recent being on the refurbishment of 6 and the creation of 1 additional new Theatre. Previously we have worked on a number of ward refurbishments.

West Cumberland Hospital

Project Description:

This £90m redevelopment of West Cumberland Hospital saw the biggest single investment into healthcare for West Cumbria in over half a century. The proposals involve a mixture of new build and refurbishment. The new buildings are three storeys in height with some rooftop plant areas. The new build accommodation comprises an urgent care centre, radiology department, minor ops facilities, endoscopy department, medical investigations unit, outpatient facilities, acute assessment centre, coronary care unit, intensive care unit, 6 theatre operating suite, neo natal, paediatric out-patient and in-patient facility, special care bay unit, delivery suite, wards, canteen, café and main entrance area.
