We are an energetic and charitable bunch and despite the cold, wintery weather, our competitive staff have embarked on another step challenge to get fit before Christmas and to raise money for several charities.
For the third year running, staff have competed to get the highest amount of steps, which have seen them ditching their cars and walking to work, pounding the streets at lunch time (and throughout the day wherever possible), long weekend walks, dancing and even running for a whole month to raise money for their chosen charities.
Three teams were formed – Happy Feet; Red Hot Chilli Steppers and Tenacious Tortoises which saw 24 of us collectively stepping an impressive 5,422,399 which equates to 2567.5 miles – this distance is equivalent to us running 100 marathons, walking from John O’Groats to Lands’ End three times or our teams walking the Pennine Way 9.5 times.
Group Managing Director, Tony Mobbs, proved that he was ahead of the game by stepping a whopping 35,970 in one day which saw him winning a prize for the most steps in one day and Head of Marketing, Kathy Clarke, was equally as competitive and stepped the most throughout the duration at 402,954 and led the winning team to victory.
The Group charities include Breast Cancer Support – a breast cancer care charity; Cancer Research UK – a national cancer charity; Weston Park a charity striving to improve the lives of people living with cancer; Adfam – a London based charity that provides support and advice for families affected by drugs and alcohol; Rotherham Hospice – an independent adult hospice in Rotherham; Thornberry Animal Sanctuary – a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and re-homing animals in the South Yorkshire region and Sheffield Children’s Hospital – a children’s charity in South Yorkshire.
Well done to everyone who tenaciously took part and completed our 2019 Step Challenge. If you would like to contribute to any of the charities mentioned, individual websites are listed below:
