Part of Durham University’s overall growth now includes a major development in sport and physical activity. Typically, they have set their own bar high at rivalling any student sports facility across the globe. Their goal — to complete sustainably at the highest levels of British University Sport.
With direct links to the City, their objective is to extensively refurbish and redevelop their existing Maiden Castle facilities to create a new sports complex. Included in their plan are new state-of-the-art sports laboratories, a rubber crumb sports pitch, upgrading of their existing hockey pitches and improving their existing car parking facilities. Further Phases include a major indoor development housing two beach volleyball courts.
Our involvement began with our appointment by long-standing client, Turner Townsend to undertake the role of Quality Site Inspectors for this project. Our objective is to ensure that the project is built well and that the specifications and quality standards are met throughout the extensive refurbishment and redevelopment of the existing sports facilities, together with construction of a new state-of-the art sports complex.
“We are fast approaching 30 projects undertaken at Durham University over the past 11 years and are further delighted to be working on their latest £31m project in collaboration with Turner Townsend. Quality Site Inspectors are an integral part of the client monitoring team and we have worked hard to become one of the leading consultancies that champion quality in our industry.”
