We are working with County Durham-based regeneration charity, The Auckland Project, on the conservation of a historic castle and creation of a new visitor destination.
900-year-old Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland is being transformed by The Auckland Project, from a palace for the powerful Prince Bishops of Durham into a visitor attraction.
It will form the centrepiece of a new visitor destination, designed to use culture and heritage as a catalyst to regenerate Bishop Auckland, which will also include a Spanish Gallery, Faith Museum and Walled Garden, all opening in stages over the next few years.
This follows the launch of the Mining Art Gallery in 2017, Auckland Tower visitor centre in 2018 and Bishop Trevor Gallery in June this year.
To date, approaching £150m has been committed to The Auckland Project, including £12.4m from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We were appointed in June 2018 to provide Quality Site Inspection Clerk of Works services and to oversee the construction of the Building and M&E works on several elements of The Auckland Project visitor destination. We are inspecting and reporting on all areas of construction to help maintain quality standards, identifying potential costly defects, delays and to reduce risk. In addition to this we are acting as the charity’s trusted Client Advisor to ensure the project runs smoothly and that its quality plan is successfully managed and implemented.
This project is a perfect fit for us as we provide specialist Clerk of Works services, many of the projects we have completed have strong heritage experience and backgrounds. We have extensive experience of working on listed buildings including Castle refurbishments and extensions.
